On 17 and 18 January 2025, the Pavel Orszag Hviezdoslav Theatre in Bratislava premiered a play consisting mainly of Hviezdoslav's Bloody Sonnets in English translation. Audiences and translator John Minahane will find it fascinating that the iconic Slovak poet wrote a powerful anti-war statement shortly after the start of the First World War. In dialogue with contemporaries Rainer Maria Rilke, Guillame Appolinaire, Ady Endre and many others, the play's director David Paska and actresses Annamaria Janekova and Katarina Morhacova have created a work that speaks to today's audiences.
