Review - European and timeless Dominik Tatarka

In the year of the thirty-fifth anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, but also of the death of Dominik Tatarka, the Drama Department of the Slovak National Theatre staged a production with the short but apt titleTatarka. The artistic and philosophical legacy of the novelist Dominik Tatarka is one of those that suffered from the socio-political developments in the territory of present-day Slovakia after 1968. Until the fall of the socialist system, the state apparatus tried to erase him completely. However, it was no better after 1989. Although academia emphasises his importance for our literature, the general public has not had many opportunities to get to know his life and work.
