Poetry about war, which is anything but poetic, doesn't have to be just read. The premiere of the play The Bloody Sonnets transformed Hviezdoslav's Krvavé sonety into a theatrical experience.
This work about war, which leaves devastation in its wake, and a call for peace, comes to life on the stage of the Pavol Országh Hviezdoslav Theatre. At the same time, audiences have a unique opportunity to hear it performed in English. The production allows us to taste the multilingualism of a bygone era for which Bratislava was renowned. In addition to English, you will hear German, Italian, French, and Russian. You will also encounter other authors, such as Rilke, Ungaretti, Apollinaire, and Pushkin, who addressed the theme of war in their works.
